In Q2 2023, Viridi announced a new partnership with Baldwin County, Alabama that advances the firm’s work to build North America’s leading RNG platform. The partnership supports the construction of a new landfill renewable natural gas (RNG) facility, which will transform naturally-occurring landfill emissions into clean energy.
ASSET HIGHLIGHTS
- The Baldwin County landfill serves as the implementation site for this pioneering project. While the county’s landfill is relatively small, Viridi leadership recognizes the immense potential of developing smaller-scale RNG projects.
- Such smaller landfill sites present unique financial and development challenges, but they also represent a significant portion of the remaining landfill development opportunities in the US and Canada.
- As with all of Viridi’s landfill projects, the Baldwin County facility will capture environmentally-hazardous methane emissions, which are a natural byproduct of decomposition at landfills globally, and transform them into RNG.
